Fabric weight is the whole story
Two hoodies can look identical in photos and feel completely different in the hand, and the difference is almost always fabric weight, usually quoted in grams per square metre. Lighter fabrics drape well in summer but lose shape after a few washes; heavier fleece holds structure and survives repeated laundering. If the listing does not state the weight, ask before ordering rather than guessing from the price.
Checking construction in QC photos
Ask for a close frame of the seam where the sleeve meets the body, a look at the ribbing at the cuff and hem, and a shot of the inside of the pocket. Loose threads at the seam intersection, ribbing that has already lost elasticity, and a drawstring with no metal eyelet are the signs that separate a well made garment from one that will look tired after a month.
Washing and long term care
Turn printed garments inside out, wash cold, and skip the tumble dryer on high heat — heat is what kills both prints and elasticated ribbing. Heavy fleece sheds noticeably in the first wash and that is normal, not a defect. If a hoodie arrives smelling strongly of finishing chemicals, airing it for a day resolves it; that is standard for factory-direct clothing.
