Fit types and what they actually mean
Straight, tapered, relaxed and wide describe how the leg narrows from knee to hem, and the same size letter in two fits is a completely different garment. Tapered styles suit sneakers and slim footwear, straight is the safest all-round choice, and wide fits need length to look right. Decide the silhouette first, then find the measurements that deliver it.
Fabric behaviour after washing
Rigid denim and heavy cotton shrink noticeably, while blended and pre-washed fabrics move very little. If the listing does not say whether the fabric is pre-shrunk, assume it is not and plan for a small amount of movement in the first wash. Stretch fabrics recover better in the waist but tend to lose shape at the knee after a long day.
Hemming and length planning
Trousers often arrive longer than Western buyers expect, and hemming locally is cheap and quick. Ordering slightly long is much safer than ordering short, because length can be removed but not added. If the listing offers multiple inseam options, take the longer one and have it adjusted locally rather than gambling on the shorter option fitting.
